Massachusetts adopted the mayflower. Trailing arbutus, as its state flower in 1918. It is protected and cannot be picked.
The state has an old and well-established florist trade, particularly around Boston, with shops experienced in university, hospital and institutional work. The New England season is short: peonies in June, then a strong run of dahlias, sunflowers and asters through to first frost, and a long imported winter. Cape Cod and the islands support a seasonal wedding trade that books out early. If you are marrying there in summer, approach a florist further ahead than you would elsewhere.
