Maine's state flower is the white pine cone and tassel. Technically not a flower at all, which makes it the odd one out among the fifty.
Maine has the shortest cut-flower season in the country and a florist trade built around it. The summer window from late June to September is genuinely excellent, with local peonies, lupines, dahlias and sunflowers, and coastal growers supplying the summer wedding trade. From November to April almost everything is trucked or flown in, prices reflect the distance, and ordering ahead is worth doing. Rural Maine delivery is not next-day everywhere.
