Montana's state flower is the bitterroot, which gives its name to a valley, a river and a mountain range. It is a wild plant, not a florist flower.

Montana's flower trade is defined by distance. Towns are far apart, delivery radiuses are long, and a single florist may be the only one for a considerable drive, so ordering ahead matters more here than in most states. The growing season is short but the long summer daylight produces excellent peonies, sunflowers and dahlias from July into September, and that local material is worth asking for specifically.
