New York's state flower is the rose. Adopted in 1955 without specifying a species, so every rose qualifies.
The state contains two very different flower markets. New York City has one of the most concentrated florist trades in the world, centered on the Flower District on West 28th Street, with shops capable of extremely demanding event work at short notice. Upstate is a different business: long-established independents serving whole counties, with a genuine local growing season running from peonies in June through dahlias and sunflowers to first frost.
