Oklahoma's state flower is the Oklahoma rose, adopted in 2004. Mistletoe, which held the title from territorial days, was reclassified as the state's floral emblem, it is a parasitic plant rather than a flower, and the change settled a long-running argument.
Oklahoma's growing season is long and hot, with local sunflowers, zinnias and dahlias from midsummer into October. Wind and heat are the practical constraints. Arrangements do not survive being left in a car, and outside the two metros a single florist often serves a wide rural area.
