Pennsylvania has one of the densest concentrations of long-established independent florists in the country, many of them family businesses running for generations in small towns. The Philadelphia Flower Show, held since 1829, is the oldest and largest of its kind and anchors a serious horticultural culture. Local growing runs from spring bulbs through peonies in late May to dahlias and chrysanthemums into October.
