Washington's state flower is the coast rhododendron. More practically, the Skagit Valley north of Seattle is one of the largest tulip-growing regions in the world, second only to the Netherlands.
That gives Washington florists exceptional access to locally grown spring bulbs. Tulips, daffodils and irises cut days rather than weeks before sale, and the April tulip fields draw hundreds of thousands of visitors. The mild, damp climate suits a long growing season, and local dahlias and peonies through summer are excellent. Ask what is Washington-grown; the answer is often more than you would expect.
