Wisconsin's state flower is the wood violet, adopted in 1909 after a schoolchildren's vote.

Wisconsin has a productive short season and a strong local grower culture, with excellent peonies in June and dahlias, zinnias and sunflowers running to first frost. Winters are severe: December through March is imported, and doorstep delivery is not viable in deep winter, so expect florists to require a hand delivery. Milwaukee and Madison support competitive independent trades, while northern counties are served by shops covering long distances.
